coaching

Chatham Table Tennis Club was founded upon the policy of providing opportunity and coaching for youngsters in Medway to play table tennis as we pride ourselves in being able to provide this every Friday evening from 5.30 – 7.30pm (Juniors).

We are for med to use first class facilities in the purpose built Howard Table Tennis Centre. The main hall has at least ten top quality tables for players to use. Currently we have two experienced ETTA level 2 qualified coaches in Trevor Towers and Roger Chipperfield. Their qualifications are currently being bridged to the new UKCC level 2. This includes them being CRB checked, attending Safeguarding Children courses as well as First Aid courses.

We also have help from many experienced CTTC club players of all ages. We cater for all abilities from complete novice to England Ranked Juniors. Our aim is to provide an enjoyable experience of Table Tennis for all who attend our popular sessions.

About Our Head Coach

My table tennis career began in the Cambridgeshire and District League when I was 17 years old after playing socially at youth clubs. I began in the bottom division losing more than I won but within a few years has climbed to Division One and a decent standard play.

I played for and helped run the Saffron Walden Table Tennis Club for 19 years winning several divisions and a few minor tournaments. Although I have never been a top player I have often been found awkward opponent able to win from losing situations.

For the last 15 years I have played in the Medway Towns Table Tennis League. Until just over a year ago playing for Rainham in the Premier and Division 1 (winning Division 1 in 2002).

My main involvement at CTTC is as Senior Coach and Development Officer. I have coached since just after I started playing firstly teaching my younger brother to play. He started playing in the league at 9 years old soon winning matches and continued to become a top junior player. Then I helped run coaching sessions at Saffron Walden and Impington.

In 2005 I passed the ETTA level 2 qualification at coaching and have since coached alongside John Kemp, Roger Chipperfield, Mike Smith and Mark Walsh, in primary schools and at CTTC and Howard training sessions.
Coaching has been the most rewarding and enjoyable part of playing table tennis and one which I hope to do for many years to come.
