THIS YEAR WE ARE CELEBRATING OUR 8TH ANNIVERSARY!

OUR SPORT ENGLAND CLUBMARK IS CONFIRMED
What is it?
Clubmark is an accreditation scheme that sets the standard for high quality junior sports clubs. Clubs of all sizes that exhibit good practice and meet a range of criteria considered to demonstrate the virtues of a quality club, can be awarded Clubmark status. The scheme is administered by Sport England and our National Governing Body, the English Table Tennis Association. Chatham Table Tennis Club have successfully met those criteria.

Why is it important?
Clubmark recognises junior sports clubs that are safe, child friendly and working towards the overall benefit of the sport and its participants. It offers parents and guardians reassurance that their child is getting the most from their sporting involvement. For sports clubs, working through the various criteria outlined in Clubmark can be beneficial in identifying areas of strength and areas that need to be improved and developed. Clubmark can also lead to new junior membership, extra volunteers, an improved structure to the club and effective working partnerships with National Governing Bodies, sports development officers and local schools.

What we had to do to get it.

Your Club Committee Members gave their own time voluntarily to attend many training workshops and the Club Secretary had to complete the ETTA's"Record of Achievement" file which contained evidence of all of the Club's policies (Constitution, Child Protection, Health & Safety, Equity, Rules, Standards of Behaviour, CRB certification, Coaching Qualifications, First Aiders and links with local schools.)

Who else has achieved this?

We are the only TT Club in Medway and one of only 3 in Kent and, at the last count, one of only 54 throughout the UK to have achieved this status. So we are justifiably proud of that.

HOW WE CAME ABOUT

Back in January 1999, with the tremendous support of the Medway Council, Chatham Table Tennis Club was founded with two main objectives in mind:

  • To promote the game particularly amongst the younger generation through coaching and encouragement
  • To provide adult recreation for all standards of players.

We have since become the largest and most influential Club in Medway and as part of the Medway Towns Table Tennis League. In the season (2006/2007) we have our top senior team "Ark Royal" in the Premier division and our 2nd and 3rd teams"Black Prince" and ."Coventry" in Div 2. "Dreadnought", "Endeavour" "Furious" "Gannet" "Hector" and "Invincible" are in Div 4 .The 5th Division includes "Javelin" "King Edward" "Lincoln" and "Monmouth"- Players are selected on ability and Team names (named after famous British naval ships) change from season to season.

In the beginning Medway Council were very helpful in that they generously funded the cost of all new equipment including 6 competition size tables of the very highest quality and by donating a considerable amount of cash to get us started. We are now an independent club with a committee,Club Rules and a written Constitution, Child Protection and Health & Safety policies. We also have 6 ETTA qualified coaches who are all CRB Certificated and First Aid trained. In 2001 the ETTA conferred "Premier Club" status upon us, which means we act as the "hub club" within Medway and invite smaller clubs and after-school clubs to join us as "satellites". In 2002/3 we were voted "Premier Club" of the Year (Nationally)by the English Table Tennis Association

In 2002 we were successful in a grant application to "Awards for All" which enabled us to provide tables and equipment for several Medway Junior Schools and our qualified coaches give their time free to pay regular visits giving demonstrations and "taster" sessions. In 2006 we were awarded the prestigious Sport England CLUBMARK and are the only TT Club in the Medway to have achieved that accreditation. Last year we were granted £1,435 by the Kent Community Foundation to purchase a state-of-the-art robot machine and we enjoy the generous shirt sponsorship of The Medway Neighbourhood Watch Association and Popi.co.uk

Our Match venue for Tuesdays is the Howard Table Tennis Centre, Derwent Avenue, Rainham.

We are very keen to promote our Friday Club Night at the Howard TT Centre (Juniors 5.30pm-7.30pm and Adults 7.30pm-10.00pm), which is open to all (including members of other clubs!) We need to make a token charge in order to pay for the venue.
